Marlboro School District is a rural school found in Southern Vermont serving about 85 students in grades PK-8. It has a longstanding tradition of providing a progressive authentic learning environment. The mission of Marlboro School is to develop personal growth, creative problem solving, and diverse means of communication in students so that they are knowledgeable stewards of their communities at home and abroad.
Joining Marlboro School offers financial support for classroom supplies, professional development and teacher interest projects. In addition to the school budget, there are two other school organizations that financially support teacher’s creativity and passions. Learning is what we do, and we financially support and encourage you to grow your professional practice. Project-based learning and field research are valued and will be supported by the school community. Educators enjoy immense curricular freedom here, and we encourage different ways of knowing, learning, and teaching that create communities where all students can thrive.
Marlboro School is currently in the midst of two long-term school-wide initiatives; Restorative Practices and Social Justice & Equity. We will be entering the third year of our staff-wide restorative practices training and will continue this training until it is rooted at all levels of our community, becoming regular practice for students, staff, families, and board members. Interrelated with restorative practices is we are committed to becoming an anti-racist and equitable school. We are involved in the Supervisory Union’s JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Team and we have committed to school-specific monthly staff meetings facilitated by an education consultancy firm. The ideal candidate has the following strengths and interests:
* Cultural competence to develop meaningful trusting relationships with students from all backgrounds.
* Experience designing inquiry based learning experiences and routines for reasoning tailored to build on students’ specific strengths
* An appreciation for the role of identity in teaching and learning mathematics
* Awareness of their own group identities, the historical context of systemic oppression in schools, and how to incorporate that awareness into culturally sustaining practices
* Strong collaborative team-player and would enjoy weekly common planning time to achieve team goals.
* Able to effectively use a variety of assessments to inform instruction.
* Is familiar with Understanding by Design unit writing
* Takes a creative and innovative approach to unit design while addressing grade-level proficiencies.
* Builds strong relationships with families and responds to comments and concerns with sensitivity, care, and respect while also maintaining confidentiality.
*A love for learning and growing as a professional.
* Enjoys integrating personal passions into one’s curriculum.
* Teach 4 math classes per day for grades 5-8.
